Can I cancel a booking?
Your payment will be returned if you are able to give no less than 48 hours notice by text or email.
Will the tour include punting?
Cambridge City Tours do not include punting, but we can offer advice about the location of punting stations.
Is Cambridge City Tours insured against accidents?
All the guides have third party liability insurance. You will be given health and safety advice at the start of the tour: it is your responsibility to follow it.
Are colleges open to visitors all the time?
The colleges are private institutions and do not have to open to the public. They will be closed during exam times and when there are college events. Times of opening can also vary but your guide will check these details in advance and offer an alternative if necessary.
Which colleges will we visit and are there entrance costs?
Some colleges have an entry fee (i.e. King’s, Queens’, St John’s, Corpus Christi). Entry fees per person are in addition to the cost of the tour.
Will the tour go ahead if it is raining?
The weather is unpredictable but your tour will go ahead. Please be aware that you will be standing outside for all or part of the time. Please wear appropriate clothing for the weather and comfortable shoes.
Can I book a tour with your if I have limited mobility or other access issues?
The city of Cambridge and the colleges work hard to meet your access needs. Please make your guide is aware of your needs in advance, this should not preclude you from participating in the tour.
Can I take photographs and video, or use a drone in the colleges?
You can take photos, yes, but you cannot use a flash, tripods or video inside the buildings. Drones are not permitted on any tours as most of the university sit within the local airport's drone restriction zone.
Can you offer a tour in another language?
Most tours are in English. If you require a specific language, we will book a first language speaker if they are available.
Will the tour start and end on time?
Your tour will start promptly at the agreed time and also end on time. Please arrive at least 10 minutes before the start, so that we can make the most of our time together.
Can my children come along too?
Yes of course. All children under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult who is responsible for their safety and well-being.
How do I make a payment in advance?
Tours are booked and paid for in advance. Please see booking and payment details.
Will the tour include information about the City as well as the colleges?
Town and gown have evolved together for more than 800 years, it is impossible to talk about one without the other. You will hear about the people, history, buildings, as well as the ideas and social change that has influenced our lives.
Can I ask to see specific places during the tour?
When booking, please let us know if there are specific places you would like to see and we will do our best to include them.
Can I bring my dog?
You cannot take dogs into the colleges (students are not allowed to keep dogs) or other important buildings, unless it is a support dog (eg. a guide dog). You may miss some of the tour, or be prepared to leave the tour to accommodate your pet's needs.
Will there be a 'comfort break' during the tour?
Cambridge has limited public toilet facilities. A comfort break will not be planned in, but please let your guide know if you need to stop during the tour and they will direct you to the closest facilities.
Can you suggest good places to eat and drink?
Like most other busy cities, Cambridge has a good range of restaurants, cafes, pubs and other venues for refreshments. Your guide will point you in the direction of a range of places to eat and drink, so that you can choose.
